The March 2016 Chamber of Commerce Luncheon was catered by Papa’s Pizzeria and hosted by the folks at Boulders Inn. Chamber President Kyle Matzen was unable to attend so Desiree Pliler, Chamber Treasurer, led the introductions and gave the current update.
Desiree noted that all of our projects for this year have committee chairs assigned, but we are still in need of volunteers and workers to make those projects happen.
John Calhoun of the Polk City Development Corporation spent a few moments to talk about the busy spring Polk City will be having with a number of development projects and then reminded us about the Spring Fling event on May 24th at TCI.
Our speaker this month was Dr. Chris Tigges with Polk City Chiropractic. Chris shared with the members about the role of chiropractic care and the financial impact it can have on local business.
Chris brought to our attention some important facts about the cost in dollars for businesses in employee absenteeism and workman’s compensation claims. He talked about how preventative chiropractic care can reduce hospitalizations by 60%, surgeries by 60%, and pharmaceutical costs by 85%.
Chris wrapped up by pointing out that back pain is one of the leading causes of employee absenteeism and how regular and proper spinal alignment directly impacts that cost to businesses.
Shawn Comer closed out the meeting by reminding everyone about the 2015 Business & Citizen of the Year Banquet to be held on March 15th at 5:00pm here at the Boulders Inn.
